Welcome back!
As promised I'll tell you about some of my experiences shopping online for a lightsaber and Darth Vindican mask.
The mask first. When scouring online, I stumbled upon an eBay-seller/artist who has got some very good reviews. He makes his masks by using the cold cast method with aluminium. The product itself looks really nice, although the bars protecting the face are maybe a little too large compared to the original. But you don't hear me complaining.
The seller states that it takes up to 4 weeks after purchase to get shipped, so this stressed me out a little. I went for it and ordered the mask anyway. Leaving a little message of appreciation is always a good way to start a friendly business contact with people who make custom stuff, so that's exactly what I did.
I haven't heard back from the seller in person but the add for this mask got taken down so I guess it's ok.
The story of my lightsaber is a totally different one. A lot of vendors of (custom) lightsabers were still out of stock or had a waiting list that would never meet my deadline for delivery!
These are a couple of websites I visited in search of my weapon of choice.
- The Custom Saber Shop: Normally this is a very good website if you're looking to build a lightsaber yourself out of parts. Problem was that their stock of parts got exhausted after the rush of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
- Ultrasabers: The same problem here, everything was out of stock: "It could be 1 week before this saber is back in stock or it could be up to 16 weeks. Please email info@ultrasabers.com for a more firm approximation." I contacted and got a very friendly respons telling me that they couldn't tell me exactly when their stock would be replenished. And with my timetable I couldn't take the risk of being a Sith Lord without my lightsaber. But all in all, they have a very large selection of sabers, with a lot of customizability.
- Vader's Vault: Same problem here. 14 to 16 weeks for assembly. But they have some very nice sabers, in different price categories.
- Saberforge
- Parksabers
- JQsabers: I contacted them asking what their delivery time would be if I bought one of their lightsabers. Again, a very polite respons telling me that they had closed their custom sabre list. The only sabers they had ready to build were the Caliburns and that customization would be limited to the colour of the hilt.
Decision time! I contacted JQsabers telling them I'll take their saber. It comes with a 9W RGB led, black hilt, flash on clash, 2W speakers and Crystal Shard V2.5. I'll post a more detailed review once I get it in my hands. Here is a link with a description of the saber and a video showcasing the product.
Enough rambling for now.
See you guys next time when I'll be talking about bracers!
